Family Voice also capitalizes on international and national events like the International Children’s day, International Women’s day, Father’s day, Mother’s day and National Women’s day to advance its awareness initiative. Since 2001, National Women’s day has been celebrated with more participation from the community up until this year.
This year Family Voice took the leading role in coordinating the observance of the National Women’s Day which was observed on the 27th March 2013 in Goroka. The theme of the National Women’s Day was “A PROMISE IS A PROMISE” and the event started with a march by women on that day. Family Voice with the Women Leaders from the faith based organizations and partners like the Mercy Works, Kafe Urban Settlers Women’s Association and the EH Provincial Women’s Council partnered together to make the event a success.
Marama Kay Ako from the United Church in Goroka shared God’s word. The message  delivered was  for men and women to see each others as partners and not enemies.
Sergeant Judy Girua spoke on the kind of abuses girls and women encounter. She said that as of 2002 the CID Section of the Police Department started seeing a lot more sexual abuse cases on girls below the ages of 0-13years. She said that times have changed and we cannot even trust anyone to mind especially female kids. “Yes we men have been abusive to our women and girls and today I want to take this time to apologize to women on behalf of all men for our actions”, this were Mr John Ericho’s (Director of Family Voice) words to the women folk .
National Women’s Day is observed annually in recognition of women as equal partners with men in contributing to the development of our country.
